On the 5th April the 1st XI cricket team attended the Counties Manukau Cricket Assoc. awards and picked up the certificate for winning the regional round of the Gillette Cup. This was a result of beating Strathallan in the final and the team progressed to the Northern districts qualifying round where they played Equinas College from Tauranga and Hillcrest High from Hamilton. They needed to beat Equinas in the morning game to advance but unfortunately were unable to beat a very strong team. There were good performances from Matthew Moffitt with the ball taking 1 for 19 off 3 overs and James Kingham with the bat scoring 34 off 31 balls.
The boys played well in the afternoon and managed to get a win by 3 wickets against Hillcrest High. Johan Joubert stood out with the ball taking 4 wickets for 7 runs off his 3 overs and Jordan Vivian and Eknoor Singh chipped in with 2 wickets each. Reuben Visser was top scorer with the bat with 37 runs off 41 balls.
While the team didn’t get a chance to advance to the next round they finished the season with a friendly match against a Seddon Park invitational team and got to experience playing at Seddon Park. The opposition set a daunting total of 296. Darren Theart, James Kingham and Liam Webster all took 1 wicket each and George Williams bowled exceptionally well and Luca Morrison took an outstanding catch. Pukekohe High batted well against a very good bowling outfit and were dismissed for 236 but not before witnessing a sublime display of aggressive batting by James Kingham who showed magnificent stroke play and ended up scoring an unbeaten 150 including 18 fours and 2 sixes. The experience was a great way to end the summer and the team look forward to the beginning of next season. The Team included Troy Bangerter, James Kingham, Luca Morrison, Matthew Moffitt, Reuben Visser, Harry Williams (wk), Johan Joubert, Darren Theart, Liam Webster (C), Jordan Vivian, George Williams, Eknoor Singh, Sam Wharfe.
