Pathway Programme Students Starting the Year Well

Our building pathway students have rejuvenated their space with a new coat of paint to set the scene for a productive year! The students have their PPE gear and have already gained their Site Safe Certificates.

We are incredibly fortunate to have Lindsay Baker as a tutor for our automotive students. With years of experience owning and operating his own automotive workshop on the North Shore, Lindsay has trained numerous apprentices throughout his career. As a dedicated member of the Pukekohe Lions Club, he has generously volunteered his time to mentor our students, sharing his extensive knowledge and expertise. Students have completed their Safe Chemical Handling and Fire Safety courses through Vertical Horizonz.

The Agriculture students have begun their placements at the farm the Primary ITO. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with students thoroughly enjoying hands-on experiences such as building fences and milking cows. Additionally, they have embarked on a Pest Control project with Land Based Training, setting trap lines and enhancing the school’s environmental area. Having completed their Health and Safety training in Rural Safety, students are now equipped to work safely on farms.

Our Electrical Engineering students have had a strong start this term. They have all successfully completed their Hazard Identification Certificate, a valuable qualification for the industry that also contributes 8 Level 3 credits to their Record of Learning.

On April 4th, students will visit The Steel Mill to explore various career opportunities within the industry. Additionally, they are collaborating with Will Flemming, the Creator and Designer of Campfire Studios, to develop their own podcasts. This hands-on project aims to enhance their communication skills and boost their confidence in speaking with others.
We are especially excited to be part of the pilot program for this brand-new standard in New Zealand schools.
