Welcome to Pukekohe High School's Art Department

All Year 9 students will take Art for 2 terms, and will get a taster of what it is like to study Art as a specialist subject area. All Year 9 students will be taught skills in painting, drawing, printmaking, some sort of 3-D medium, and may also be taught about digital art-making. Students will learn how to generate and develop ideas and find personal expression for these.

Art becomes an option choice from Year 10 onwards. Once students reach Year 11, a range of courses are offered, branching off into Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Design and Art History. All practical courses use drawing of some sort as a central means of developing ideas.

Art is an exciting world of learning, thinking and personal development, as well as a world of different Art disciplines in which students gain increasing expertise. In a world which is rapidly changing, the ability to feel centred and enriched within our personal cultures, and to think creatively and laterally is essential.
