Revision for 10 Science Exam



The exam is a 2 hour event that tests all you have learned throughout the year.

Acids and Bases: Specific Learning Outcomes

 

1. List the properties of acids and bases.

 

2. Recognise the chemical reactions of acids and write word and chemical equations.

 

3. Understand the neutralisation reaction and the products formed.

 

4. Describe the pH scale and its relevance to everyday life.

 

5. Describe the action of acids and bases on indicators.

Chemical Mysteries: Specific Learning Outcomes

 

1. Revise the periodic table arrangement and atomic structure, including electron arrangement. Understand how to produce a formula, count atoms in formula, list elements from a formula and learn common formula. . (Range: O2, HCl, NaOH, H2SO4, CO2, H2, NaHCO3, H2O, HNO3, CaCO3, CaCl2 )

 

2. Revise writing equations, be able to interpret chemical equations, understand how to balance given chemical equations.

 

3. Distinguish between metals and non metals using the physical properties and relate them to their uses. (Range: Al, Cu, Fe, Au, Zn, N, C, S, )

 

4. Understand the process of burning (of metals, non metals, methane), complete combustion and incomplete combustion.

Light and Energy: Specific Learning Outcomes

 

1. Understand types of energy

 

2. Understand how Energy is Changed, Conserved and Reused.

 

3. Relate light to vision. Describe plane mirror reflection. Observe curved mirror reflection.

 

4. Make qualitative observations of refraction. Use refraction in dispersion. Mixing colours

Current Thinking: Specific Learning Outcomes

 

1. Know about electrical charges, conductors and insulators, recognise circuit symbols and distinguish between series and parallel circuits.

 

2. Define current / voltage (simple terms) and describe how they are distributed and measured in series and parallel circuits.  Demonstrate how to construct a simple circuit and take measurements from electrical meters.

 

3. Understand the ideas of power and resistance.

 

4. Understand the properties of magnets and how electromagnets work.

Generation Game: Specific Learning Outcomes

 

1. Define the meanings of sexual / asexual reproduction, outlining advantages and disadvantages.

 

2. Name flower parts, explain their function and how wind / insect pollinated flowers differ.

 

3. Explain the process of pollination, fertilisation and how the next generation is dispersed.

 

4. Name the human male & female reproductive organs; explain their function and their role in reproduction from conception to birth.

 

5. Describe (in simple terms) the process of meiosis and how it gives variation within the human population. To understand how genetics can explain variation. To be able to understand basic genetic terminology and complete punnet squares.
